Health for Haiti lends a hand
On Feb. 1, Student Council sponsor Tonia Stoehr sent out e-mail to advisory teachers officially starting a short-term program called Health for Haiti.
In the e-mail, it was asked that advisory teachers and their students would put together emergency health kits that could be sent to Haiti for the people in need. Each health kit should include a hand towel, washcloth, comb, nail file or fingernail clippers, toothbrush, and six bandages. It is also asked that $1 is included with each kit so that toothpaste can be purchased before shipment.
Stoehr said that she wanted to give the people in Haiti something useful.
“We wanted to do something for Haiti,” Stoehr said. “We thought this would be more helpful than just collecting money.”
The advisory classes that can put together the most health kits before the deadline will be rewarded for their good deed with a donut party. All kits should be brought to Stoehr in the Counseling Office by deadline date Feb. 10. Once all the kits have been brought in, Stoehr will bring them down to the College Hill United Methodist Church where they will be packaged and delivered to Haiti.
Anyone who would like to do more to donate their time or money to the Haiti cause can do so through groups and organizations like American Red Cross, Clinton Bush Haiti Fund and Healing Hands for Haiti.
